Cement Manufacturing in East Africa

Cement Manufacturing in East Africa at Sarrai Group unites Hima Cement (Uganda) and Rai Cement (Kenya) to deliver dependable materials for housing, commercial builds, and national infrastructure. With manufacturing footprints in strategic corridors and customer teams close to project sites, we prioritize quality, on-time logistics, and technical support for contractors, distributors, and developers across the region.

Cement Manufacturing in East Africa: Our Footprint

  1. Hima Cement — Uganda. In November 2023, Holcim signed a definitive agreement to sell Hima Cement to Sarrai Group; the transaction completed in March 2024 following approvals. Today, Hima Cement operates as part of Sarrai Group, strengthening domestic supply and regional reach.

  2. Rai Cement — Kenya. Established in January 2017, Rai Cement serves the North Rift, South Rift, Nyanza, and Western regions from its plant along the Kericho–Kisumu highway (Awasi/Muhoroni corridor)—a location chosen for proximity to major projects and road networks.

These sites allow Sarrai Group to align plant schedules, dispatch windows, and inventory with contractor timelines, reducing the risk of delays on critical works.

What We Offer

    • Portland cement products for general construction and masonry applications—reliable strength development, consistent fineness, and predictable setting times.

    • Project support: Pre-bid guidance on grades and consumption estimates; delivery planning; documentation for compliance and quality control.

    • Logistics reliability: Routing via established distribution hubs to keep stock moving during peak construction periods and seasonal bottlenecks.

(Where applicable, building-material adjacencies such as cement poles, industrial packaging bags, and PVC pipes are produced within the Group’s manufacturing ecosystem to support utility and infrastructure projects.)

Quality & Compliance

Our plants follow documented SOPs and work to the national standards in their respective markets. We safeguard consistency through:

  • Incoming raw-material checks (chemistry and moisture) and optimized raw-mix design.

  • Process control across grinding and kiln operations; kiln/finish-mill audits scheduled to keep variability low.

  • Lab testing for fineness, setting time, and compressive strength, with calibration routines that protect data integrity.

  • Packaging integrity—weight control, pallet stability, and clear batch coding for traceability.

Hima Cement (Uganda): A New Chapter with Sarrai Group

With Sarrai Group ownership finalized in March 2024, Hima Cement’s focus is on stable supply and customer service, supporting Uganda’s housing programs, private developments, and infrastructure. The combination of local decision-making and regional relationships enables faster responses to demand spikes and special project needs—while governance ensures quality, safety, and environmental compliance remain non-negotiable

Rai Cement (Kenya): Serving Western & Rift Projects

From its Awasi/Muhoroni location on the Kericho–Kisumu Road, Rai Cement is positioned to serve contractors and hardware networks across Western Kenya, Nyanza, and the Rift. The team emphasizes customer proximity, quick dispatch, and supportive after-sales relationships—so builders can plan pours, manage crew time, and control overall project risk.
